You can run a complete ASO loop for an indie app for free: find the words people type, put the right ones in your listing, check where you rank every morning, and fix what does not work. The pieces are App Store Connect for conversion, the App Store's own search box for the words, your reviews for the vocabulary, and RankASO's free plan for the daily ranks, the rival check and the keyword field report. Here is each piece, what it answers, and where free stops.

The field report in RankASO, each word of the keyword field with what it earns

1. App Store Connect, for the one question that comes first

Free with the developer account you already pay for. App Analytics shows impressions, product page views and downloads by territory. It answers the question most developers skip: is the problem that nobody sees the page, or that people see it and leave? For our own app Escape, about half of the people who see the page download it, so impressions are the constraint and the keyword work is where the time goes. Check this before touching a keyword.

2. The App Store search box, for the words

Type the first word of your niche into the App Store's search field and read the suggestions. They are the phrases people actually complete, in the order the store ranks them, and they differ per country. It is the cheapest keyword research there is. RankASO's Discover does the same from the seeds you give it, ten a day on the free plan, and scores each phrase so you know which ones to track.

3. Your reviews, for the vocabulary

Free and under-read. The words your reviewers use are the words your next users search. Read the last fifty reviews and list every noun; half of them are keywords you have not tracked.

4. A daily rank check, free, on your phone

Searching the App Store and counting down to your app works for three keywords. By keyword ten you want it automated, per storefront, at the same hour every day, with yesterday's number next to today's. RankASO's free plan does that for one app, 30 keywords and two storefronts, reads the top 10 on each term with their ratings so you can see who is above you, and keeps 90 days of history. No account, nothing collected. How to check a rank by hand, and the trap to avoid.

5. A keyword field check, free

The 100-character keyword field is where most indie listings waste a quarter of their space: words already in the name, plurals of words you have, and words the store ignores such as "app" and "free". Studio's rule checker in RankASO reads your field and flags each wasted character, free, and the field report shows which words earn a rank somewhere and which carry nothing. The field, explained with a real example.

Where free stops

Free is sized for one app. The work scales when you add a second app, start tracking rivals and their gaps, open more storefronts, or want history beyond 90 days. That is where RankASO Pro starts, and the paywall appears only at one of those limits, never on launch and never on a timer.

Questions

Can I do ASO with only free tools?

Yes, for one app. App Store Connect for conversion, the store's search box and your reviews for words, and a free daily tracker for ranks and the keyword field. What you give up is scale: more apps, rivals, storefronts and long history.

Which free rank tracker needs no account?

RankASO. It runs on the iPhone, reads the public App Store directly, and its privacy label is Data Not Collected. The free plan is one app, 30 keywords and two storefronts, checked every day.

Is the keyword field checker really free?

Yes. Studio's rule checker and the field report are in the free plan. The optimizer, which writes a field for you from the terms you already win, is Pro.
